The Bios
Emily Newhouse Dillingham
Emily joined LSJ in 2006 after stints with the University of Virginia's First Year Players, DC's Vox Populi, and Northwestern's Wigmore Follies and Habeas Chorus. She sings soprano, except for when she sings alto or tenor, and she and Nate split directing duties. (Emily's directorial style often involves threatening to cut people and/or comparing dynamics to animal shapes.) She lives in Andersonville with her husband and dog, and she loves bad movies - preferably about high schoolers, dancing, or high schoolers dancing. When she's not singing with Jive, Emily practices yoga and law.
DANIEL CRAIG
Daniel Craig, after being named after the strikingly handsome actor, decided stealing another's identity to get discounts on hotels and car rentals just wasn't enough. He is the owner and a practitioner of Affinity Rehab and Therapy Services, and spends most of his day frolicking with seniors. He is a brand new member of LakeShore Jive, and brings experience in music education, piano accompanying, and is a certified music therapist. He was the founder and music director of Boston's Under the Radar and the Chicago group Enertia. He is also currently squandering away time finishing a PhD for no other reason than it is almost done. He can be found on evenings and weekends sitting at the piano with friends, catching a beer and music videos at Sidetracks or Big Chicks, and giving free back adjustments and manual therapy to those in need.
Jenny Foughner
Jenny knew she was destined to sing without the aid of instruments when
she began forcing friends to harmonize TLC's
'Waterfalls' with her on the bar mitzvah bus at the tender age of
12. A native of Gary Sinise's hometown (Highland Park, IL) (go Giants),
Jenny attended Macalester College, where she founded and served as Musical
Director of Scotch
Tape, Mac's premiere co-ed a cappella performance ensemble/80's tribute
band. After college, she tried in vain to find suitable a cappella outlets
in both Los Angeles and New York City, but was ultimately drawn back to
Chicago, apparently because the universe knew she'd one day be lucky enough
to join the illustrious Lake Shore Jive. When she isn't raising money
for Court Theatre
("the most consistently excellent theatre company in America"), she can
be seen performing with the Wicker
Park Choral Singers, at any number of fine karaoke establishments
around the great city of Chicago, during family dinners, and/or in front
of her coworkers, who are too tired to tell her to be quiet. Jenny is
also wholly committed to the cause of animals wearing clothing.
Corey Greendale
By day, Corey works in equity research and venture capital. By night, he also works in equity research and venture capital. However, he tries to take short breaks to eat, sleep, and sing every once in a while (sometimes all three simultaneously, in the name of efficiency). He's been in Jive since 2000, joining at precisely the same moment as Melissa. Things Corey enjoys in his copious spare time: spending time with his lovely & talented girlfriend, hanging out with his lovely & talented family, sampling new restaurants, running, tripping, getting right back up and running again, and producing actuarial tables predicting the likelihood the Cubs will win the World Series in his lifetime (17%--here's hoping). Corey also loves singing with Jive, and frankly couldn't quit even if he wanted, because his lovely & talented grandmother would murder him in his sleep (while he was singing).
Nate Hole
On June 2, 2000, Nate Hole -- the greatest player in the history of hockey -- was introduced by Phoenix Coyotes Owner & Chairman Steve Ellman as the managing partner of the Coyotes in charge of all hockey operations. The Great One did not officially begin his new role until February 15, 2001 -- the date Ellman's ownership group completed the purchase of the Coyotes. Wait a second -- this is Wayne Gretzky's biography, with the name changed! Nevermind.
DAVID LIPSCHUTZ
David has been singing since before he could walk (just ask his mom!). He has performed in plays throughout Chicago, including productions at the Illinois Theatre Center, Theatre at the Center, Victory Gardens, Hell in a Handbag, and Brown Paper Box Co. (of which he is a proud company member). He has also appeared in several films, including portraying an Orthodox Jew who walks into a tiny closet with Judd Hirsch in Polish Bar and a paint-sniffing carjacker named Beaver in Devil in My Ride. Oh, and he is an attorney.
Whitney McCall
Whitney's been singing since her parents thrust a microphone into her
hand at the age of 4, and she hasn't been able to let go of it ever since.
In her spare time she plays doctor at a practice in Naperville.
She previously set the record for longest LSJ commute by coming in from
Milwaukee for a few years while she finished her residency, and still holds the title. Whitney's
idea of a perfect night would be reading a good book by candlelight while
sipping a glass of Red Zin, with her 2 kitties
warming her feet.
Jen Ostafinski
By day, Jen spends her time making sure all the good people of this country
have cute shoes to wear (courtesy of their local K-Mart
store). By night she is very excited to now be singing with the highly
entertaining LSJ, and also currently sings with the more classically based
(but just as entertaining in their own right) Apollo
Chorus of Chicago (where she met one Miss Melissa
Shubalis ). Previously, Jen attended Dalton HS and Western
Michigan University and sang with both the Collegiate Singers and
the Grand Chorus. She is sure there are many amusing stories about her
singing as a child, and she's just as sure her Mom will be more than willing
to tell them all when you meet her this year at Spring Sing.
Eric Pomajzl
Eric
is no longer the newest member of LSJ! He is from Nebraska and is an alumni
of Doane College.
Eric works at the Chicago
Symphony Orchestra and also at a neighborhood bar. Which one? Go find
him, and win a gig-worn fedora. Eric is a runner, and a fan of both Katy
Perry and Family Guy. More info to come as soon as Eric's dossier is unclassified.
Judi Riley
Design
Consultant by day (RileyCreative, Inc.), aspiring songwriter by night,
Judi truly thanks LSJ for the opportunity to share in the love of singing,
laughing and oh yeah....THOUSANDS of humorous weekly email blasts (can
you say gmail?). Judi has always had music in her life, from harmonizing
with her barbershop-loving dad on family summer car trips, to performing
in musical theatre, including Candlelight's long-running production of
Annie, Marriott Lincolnshire's USA premier of Windy City,
and Baby, directed by Richard Maltby Jr. She is an original member
of LSJ. If she could have one super power it would be either to have a
photographic memory, to be able to dance like Michael
Flatley, or to actually get 8 hours of sleep every night. Her favorite
current TV show is House. Her favorite word to say is arugula!, and her
biggest current desire would be to either sing with Keith
Urban or...heck, while we're wishing...
BRIAN SCHMIDT
As the youngest member of Jive, Brian is honored to have been accepted into a group that's been around almost as long as he has. Brian is a bass-i-tenor-tone who occasionally lays down vocal percussion and dreams of singing soprano. Brian went to Lewis University, where he was the music director for their first a capplla group, Harmonic Uprising, as well as singing in the a cappella University Choir. In addition to majoring in music, he also studied Music Merchandising, so he'll be getting those LSJ shirts, mugs, and coasters to you ASAP. He also played volleyball, and is very tall. Living in the north suburbs and residing in the hearts of many, Brian currently works for the eCommerce team in eHealth at eWalgreen's. Er, sorry. Just Walgreens. EEEEEEEEeeeeeeee!
Melissa Shubalis
Melissa is a product marketing manager by day, and a singing machine by
night. She's been in LSmfJ since the turn of the century, and is in a
package deal with Corey. (Hey, you get what you paid
for.) Aside from this extremely talented a cappella group that rocks her
world, Melissa sings in two other groups in her "spare" time. She's in
a classical choir called the Apollo
Chorus, and is the frontwoman for a rockin' cover band called The
Hookups . Melissa's Greek name means love, and she has many - some
of which are: Easy
Cheese, American Idol, sushi, Chimay,
Nip/Tuck, Sudoku, a certain man who's never cold, her iPhone, and Chandler
Bing.
Jason Sperling
Jason is an actor/singer/improviser around town. Theatres he has worked
with locally include Marriott, Drury Lane Water Tower, Theatre at the
Center, Noble Fool, Apple Tree Theatre, Drury Lane Oakbrook, Northlight,
and Chicago Shakespeare Theater. Jason is a proud original company member
of Barrel of
Monkeys, a children's writing and theatre program, and he also tours
the country with Wavelength,
a company that does comedy for educators. Jason teaches kids acting, improv
and writing, and he directs youth theatre. Did I mention he also does
freelance copywriting (including, apparently, switching narrative mode
mid-sentence)? He has been with Jive since April of 1995, when he had
more hair and no beard, and sings bass. He tends to bounce when he sings,
especially doing vocal percussion. No really, watch for it. Jason really
likes the Buffalo
Bills, Chicago
Cubs, pop culture, and crossword puzzles, and he loves GCH.
